{Lumens}

So, just what are Lumens?

Essentially, they are the exact opposite of Heartless. They originated in Kingdom Hearts and their species are just as numerous and varied. However, though they are of the light, it does not necessarily mean that they are harmless. Too much of anything, even good, can cause problems—in order for there to be peace, there must be balance. Without darkness, there can be no light, and vice versa. They can be found wandering all around Paixao, especially in the western half where the poor do not take the time to exterminate them.

Every type of lumen, by default, is pure white (be it scales, fur, or whatever) with eyes and mouths that glow yellow (the eyes being blue). Most of them have parts of their body that glow in the same way, mainly tail tips, muzzles, gills, and the space on their bodies where their hearts would be. Their blood is a "goopy" glowing bluish color, and tingles to the touch.

All of them have the ability to inject things into another creature's body, be it via their claws or mouths (by biting or spitting), and the substance is basically the same as their blood, save thinner, semi-transparent, and very sticky. This burns like fire, and can cause burns where it touches. Different types of lumens can be weaker or stronger; it depends on the individual, just like real animals. Killing one is possible; when it is defeated, the body usually fades away after a few moments of lying there lifelessly.

Lumens tend to keep to themselves; some are actually quite tame and friendly, although there is always a chance that they may attack. It is a good idea not to trust them no matter how pleasant they may be, as they seem to have a number of invisible "triggers" which can send them on rampages: one moment they are friendly and cuddly, the next they will try to rip at your throat.

They are more prone to go after darker characters, such as demonic creatures or very evil individuals, or those that harbor much grief and sadness. They are drawn to negativity because they fear it and wish to remove the darkness in others completely. But extremely pure and "nice" can also be vulnerable—their hearts are already so full of light, the lumen get an urge to push them further down the path. Lumens will be pleasant to the good-hearted for an extended period of time (such as days or weeks, perhaps taking time weighing the light in their heart), but eventually will attack as well. They also despise Nobodies and will attack with no ifs, ands, or buts when it concerns them.

All lumens have an instinct to breed their light and fill hearts with it entirely, or create hearts where there are none. Essentially, hardly anyone is safe. Every heart is a balance of light and dark. Heartless are what results when the heart is exposed to too much darkness—it completely takes it over, sometimes blackening it, shriveling it up, or ridding it from its physical body completely. Lumens result when a heart is exposed to too much light.

When the light is allowed to take over, it makes the heart swell to such a great size (metaphorically more than physically, as most talk of light/darkness in Kingdom Hearts is) that the body cannot properly compensate for it's presence; it becomes ghost-like and pale, eyes and hair losing their natural coloration—most of the time, the eyes will be red or blue, and the hair will be white or light blond. Blood turns into a glowing bluish goop and the creature is almost vampiric; it feeds off the light in others, and kills the darkness in them. So coming in contact with a lumen, especially being bitten or slobbered on, will give the person in question an odd, pseudo-euphoric feeling... or, potentially, turn them into a lumen as well.
